Learning at the JConcepts Winter Nationals

Annihilation Racing at RC Pro in 2021

As a part of our continued effort to grow the racing side of our program, we decided to enter the JConcepts Winter Nationals at Indy RC World in Garland, Tx.

We’ve had a lot of success racing in the past, but this was a step up in competition for us so we expected this to be a bit of a learning experience for us – and that’s exactly what we got.

Landon competed in the Street Stock division, Chase raced his MudBoss, while our Coach ran both classes.

Chase’s primary experience in racing is with off road buggies, so there was a bit of a learning curve for him at this event. But as the day moved along he started to get a feel for it and started turning some fast laps.

When the heat races were done, in the field of 30 cars Coach qualified 8th and Chase qualified  ****.  Toward the end of the day, we figured out that we were running the wrong gearing package and that definitely made things difficult for us in the mains.

When it was all over, Chase finished in 23rd and our Coach finished in 14th.

Street Stock is a fairly new division for us and it showed at this race.  There were several points in the day where Landon showed off his extraordinary driving skills but his car just wasn’t fast enough to be competitive.

The set up we put on both cars was way off for this track and the result was that our cars were… well… slow.

Because of that, in a field of 23 cars Landon and Coach finished in 21st and 22nd.  As people love to say, this was just one of those racing deals.  When you have a terrible set up, you’re almost always going to have a terrible finish.

The results today were in line with what we should have expected going in, but it was still a little disappointing.  Despite that, we gained a lot of the information we are going to need to make our cars faster at the next race so we feel like it was a positive start to this racing season!
